Cinnamon Ornaments

Aren’t they cute!? I’m a huge fan of all-natural decorations, especially on the Christmas tree, since my kitty will undoubtedly knock at least one off to nosh on. Plus they also look wonderful; the earthy brown color against the vibrant green of my balsam fir *ahhh*. Plus they smell amazing!

I made a double batch of the recipe below and it made well over 50 ornaments, each about three inches long, but I think I rolled them a little too thin, next time I’ll make them thicker, closer to a half inch thick.

Cinnamon Dough

1 ¼ cup cinnamon

1 cup apple sauce

You’ll also need a skewer to poke holes

Some ribbon or string to hang them

Combine the ingredients in a stand mixer, fitted with a paddle, until a dough forms. If it feels too sticky to roll add a little more cinnamon, if it’s too dry then add a little more apple sauce.

Roll out the ball of dough on a cinnamon dusted counter top until about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters and poke a hole big enough for some string to go through. Bake on a parchment lined backing sheet at 200 F for 1 ½ – 2 hours.

They should be dry and hard when done. Flip one over and check that the back is uniform in color. When they aren’t dry enough there will be a darker spot on the bottom, or backs, of the ornaments.
