“I drink to make other people more interesting.” –Ernest Hemingway
It appears that there are a great number of variations of this recipe hanging about on the world wide web; when's the last time you heard someone call it that?? Some of the recipes call for more or less rum, some include simple syrup and some don't, some even go so far as to call for flavoured syrups (like lemon-thyme). The one thing that each of these variations do seem to agree on is that this cocktail was crafted for Hemingway at an establishment he frequented in Havana. El Floridita is famous for their daiquiris and the story goes that, although Hemingway enjoyed their drinks, he requested they be made with no sugar and double the rum.
